Transportation

Krakow has the best public transportation among Polish cities. Almost all sights that could possibly interest visitors are accessible buy tram or bus. A one-way ticket costs 2.50zl and must be stamped upon entering a bus or tram in one of the yellow stampers on board. Nowadays it's quite easy to buy tickets from the many vending machines located at major stops, or from a machine located in buses in trams, though not all vehicles have been outfitted with machines yet. The vending machines have menus in a few languages, including English. Besides single-ride tickets, there are various tickets good from 1 hour to one week. These tickets allow you to change trams and buses without having to validate another ticket. If you purchase such a ticket that is valid for a given period of time, remember to validate the ticket the first time you board a bus or tram, then the ticket is valid from the time stamped on the ticket. Do Not stamp the ticket more than once! It is also possible to buy a ticket from the driver if all else fails. Krakow's main train and bus stations are located just outside of the old town, a five minute walk from the Florianska gate. If you plan on visiting the Wieliczka salt mine, it's possible to take a city bus which starts its route across the street from the Galeria Krakowska shopping mall. Currently, this route is serviced by bus number 304.
The local airport is easily reached by taking the shuttle train from the main train station from platform number 1. It takes about 20min for the train to arrive at the airport.
