Landmarks
Krakow boasts more historic monuments and landmarks than any other city in Poland. The city center has a preserved Medieval street plan that features the largest town square in Europe and dozens of churches dating from the 11th century and onward. The city wasn't damaged during the Second World War, and no Stalinist buildings were erected in the old town after the war, so what we see today essentially a Medieval and Baroque city. The former Jewish neighborhood has many preserved monuments that testify to the Jewish heritage of the city, and for those looking to see something from Communist times can visit Nowa Huta, a planned utopia build for steelworkers in the 1950s.
