Krakow has plenty of small, independent galleries that host interesting exhibitions and which also sell paintings, photography, and posters. For the visitor to Krakow, the best gallery for finding a truly unique and interesting souvenir is the Poster Gallery on ul. Stolarska, across from the US consulate. Poland is famous for its poster art, and this gallery offers hundreds of film and theater posters for sale, at prices much lower than similar galleries in NYC or London. The most popular gallery for contemporary art exhibits is probably Bunkier Sztuki (the art bunker) which is located along the Planty Park on the west side of the old town. They have a fine book shop as well, and a very successful outdoor cafe that's open year round. If you decided to venture out to the Podgórze neighborhood across the river, it's worth looking into the Starmach gallery located in a former synagogue.
